Likopen (Solanum Lycopersicum)
Lycopene is a bright red carotenoid and is abundant in tomatoes and foods produced from tomatoes. It is not produced in the human body. There are many studies, especially animal models, examining the effects of lycopene on cancer development, the formation of some types of cancer, and disease response. It is thought that its anticarcinogenic effect is due to its antioxidant properties. Its effectiveness on prostate cancer has been demonstrated in many human and animal studies. Phase 3 randomized studies are needed to determine its effectiveness in other types of cancer. More human safety and effectiveness studies are needed to recommend its use as a supplement. There are animal studies to determine its effectiveness on neurological, cardiovascular diseases and neuropathic pain. There are no serious side effects shown when using natural foods in daily meals. There is not enough data to recommend its use in terms of oncology.
