Balneotherapy is a treatment method performed with natural elements such as mineral and thermal waters and mud baths (peloids). It is a complementary and supportive treatment method in the treatment of many diseases, especially various rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, especially in pain management. Its beneficial properties are probably due to mechanical, thermal and chemical effects. Thermal spring treatment is the most commonly used balneotherapy method and is a treatment method that develops by using thermal, mineral and healing waters in thermal springs, especially in the form of baths. Mud therapy, on the other hand, consists of a mixture of solid and liquid components and is applied locally or as a wrap to the whole body, and reduces muscle spasms and pain by increasing blood flow, metabolism and connective tissue elasticity. Although balneotherapy is mostly applied for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, it is also used in various other indications such as dermatological, immunological and inflammatory diseases, chronic pain syndromes, treatment or rehabilitation of chronic heart diseases. It is also used in the rehabilitation of metabolic syndromes, neurological diseases as well as psychiatric diseases. It is most commonly used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia syndrome, low back, neck and shoulder pain. Balneotherapy and mud therapy can be applied from a few sessions to 21 sessions. The effect period can generally last up to 3 months. However, more research is needed to determine the effectiveness, safety, standard procedures, and possible side effects of balneotherapy
