Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a zoonotic disease transmitted by Hyalomma genus ticks and characterized by fever and hemorrhage. The causative agent is Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHF). More than 1,000 human cases are reported from Southeast Europe and Western Asia each year. The main mode of transmission is tick bites. CCHF is endemic in parts of Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Southeastern Europe and has been observed in more than 30 countries. The virus is transmitted by hard-bodied Hyalomma ticks of the Ixodes family, especially Hyalomma marginatum. The causative agent is Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus (CCFV), which is located in the Bunyavirales order, Nairoviridae family, Orthonairovirus genus. The spectrum of clinical manifestations ranges from subclinical disease (88%) to acute infection with bleeding and multiorgan failure.
