Biberiye (Rosmorinus Officinalis)
Synopsis
Rosmarinus officinalis L. (ROL), known in Turkey as Kuşdili, Akpüren and Hasalbal; It is a plant species from the Laminacae family, whose main components are rosmarinic acid (RA) and caffeic acid, does not shed its leaves in winter, is long-lived and used for medicinal and aromatic purposes. It has been shown that rosemary has many effects such as antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral and immunomodulatory. Rosemary contains nutritional and non-nutritional components that inhibit experimental carcinogenesis. Studies show that rosemary has the potential to protect organs such as the liver and stomach from carcinogenic or toxic substances. Rosemary has also been shown to be effective in colic pain, dysmenorrhea and respiratory problems. It has also been shown to have analgesic, anti-epileptic, expectorant, rheumatic problems, diuretic, liver-protective and antimutagenic effects. It has been approved and used by the European Union as an additive to extend the shelf life of foodstuffs.
